Wynne Calls Grassy Narrows A “Shared Responsibility”

There appears to be a difference of opinion between the prime minister and Ontario’s premier over whether the mercury problem in the English-Wabigoon river system is only a provincial issue.

Justin Trudeau thinks it’s Ontario’s problem to deal with, but in an interview with Acadia News, Premier Kathleen Wynne said it’s a shared responsibility.

Wynne notes the affected community of Grassy Narrows, along with the federal and provincial governments, have always been involved in the issue.

She believes her government can have an important interaction with the feds on the issue and will be reaching out to them “to bring them into the conversation in a significant way.”
